In this video I show how I divide hardy hibiscus plants. I will leave the mother plant in ground and pull up a clump to tear apart. On this plant I got 6 good plant starts. Dividing can ensure a healthy plant and rejuvenate and activate new growth. It is a free easy way to get more plants. I like to do this in the fall just after my plants go dormant so it’s less stress on them. It will give a few months for the plants to work on roots before growing. This helps keep healthy plants with less signs of heat stress. Always be careful and know what you can and can not divide or propagate. Plants that say do not propagate are patented. As always use clean equipment and use caution when working with sharp tools. These are hardy hibiscus also known as: marsh mallow, dinner plate mallow, giant hibiscus, swamp hibiscus/mallow, there are tons of names.
