In one of its first significant moves, the Trump Administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) placed nearly all employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on administrative leave. Under the stated mission of ending fraud, waste, and abuse, DOGE shut down the USAID building, canceled payments to contractors for completed work, and terminated most ongoing contracts. Although many Americans remain unaware of USAID’s role, there is growing concern over the loss of programs that provide food assistance, combat HIV/AIDS, and fight malaria in Africa. In this virtual dialogue, Barbara Smith (Vice President of Peace Programs), Larry Sampler (Vice President, Metropolitan State University of Denver), Russell Porter (Director for Central America and Mexico), and Ambassador (ret.) Charles Shapiro (former U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela) discuss what USAID really does, their firsthand experience working with USAID, and what the future of global aid may look like in the wake of these dramatic changes. 📺 Subscribe to this channel for more insightful conversations on global affairs and international development. #USAID #GlobalAid #InternationalDevelopment #HumanitarianRelief #ForeignAid #GlobalHealth #HIVPrevention #MalariaPrevention #AfricaAid #USForeignPolicy #Peacebuilding #DevelopmentWork #Diplomacy #GovernmentPolicy #GlobalAffairs
