I am one of the teachers for Macrame for Beginners Group on Facebook.   / macrameforbeginners.com   If you are a beginner and not a member of the group, I suggest you check them out. You will find a lot of useful resources. A great supportive community, and a group of very talented teachers who will teach you all kinds of projects. This video is meant for beginners who know their basic knots and are looking to learn and expand their knowledge further. In this video, I will not be recreating the original hanging but will be using my practice rope and scraps of color cord to show you how to tie the knots and switch colors. I encourage you to use your imagination in creating your own tapestry. I hope these tips will be helpful. 0:59 - Materials Let’s start with materials and measurements. This piece measures 48” wide and 36” long. You will need: 1 Wooden dowel 48“ (122 cm) long. 3/4” (2 cm) 4 Wooden dowels 48” (122 cm) long . 5/16“ (0.8 cm) Source: You most likely can find these dowels in your local hardware store or lumber store. Natural 5mm 3ply rope. I used 48 pieces cut to 160” (407 cm) in length. Source: RightRope.com Color single-strand 4mm cord. Source: Ganxxet.com Fabric glue, Scissors, measuring tape. The making of this hanging consists of 10 parts. 1:35 - Part 1- Attach your cord to the dowel. 3:12 - Part 2 - Attach a thin wooden dowel with double half hitch knots. 6:20 - Part 3 - Make 5 rows of knots to create a basket weave pattern. Part 4 - Attach another thin wooden dowel with double half hitch knots. (Same as Part 2) 8:55 - Part 5 - Add color spirals in your desired pattern. 18:13 - Part 6 - Add a row of horizontal double half hitch knots. Part 7 - Attach another thin wooden dowel with double half hitch knots. (Same as Part 2) Part 8 - Make 5 rows of knots to create a basket weave pattern. (Same as Part 3) Part 9 - Attach another thin wooden dowel with double half hitch knots. (Same as Part 2) Part 10 - Cut your fringe to your desired length. (I will not be going over this part) 20:17 - Conclusion And there you have it! I hope it will spark some ideas and you will add some of your own elements. But feel free to just make it the same.
