Anticipation

How do you feel before the start of an Ultra-Trail Race? I wrote this music to capture my feelings ahead of starting the Madeira Island Ultra-Trail 60k in April 2025 (#MIUT). My feelings about the majesty of the mountains, the beauty of the trails and the breathtaking landscapes of Madeira. Feelings about the challenges I would meet along the way and of being part of something where success, doesn't come at someone else's expense. Where complete strangers chat and encourage each other to carry on when things get tough. Then there is the fear of a DNF. The hope of overcoming the physical and mental obstacles ahead. Feelings of trepidation, of excitement, of anticipation. And finally imagining the feelings of triumph at crossing the finish line in Machico. The time unimportant, the position irrelevant, just a feeling of pure joy and relief at completing an unforgettable adventure. Whilst this is how the music was born, there will be many other interpretations and pictures in peoples minds when listening to Anticipation. There are no right or wrong answers.
