Hi and welcome to another Cisco ASA 5506-X Configuration Basics video. During this video I'll be showing you how to gain access to the ASA 5506-X firewall in the the event you cant remember or don't know the enable password. The following process requires physical access to the appliance and a console connection You can find a full copy of the configuration used below, including brief explanation of the commands used. ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ! After connecting to the ASA via the console and establishing a terminal client session ! you need to pull the power from the ASA, forcing it to shut down. ! After a few seconds reconnect the power while watching the terminal session, once the ! session comes back to life use the BREAK or ESC key to interrupt the boot sequence. ! Doing so correctly will bring you to the rommon prompt. ! From the rommon prompt enter the following commands. ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ! rommon 1 - confreg ! ! Configuration Register: 0x00000001 ! Configuration Summary ! [ 0 ] password recovery ! [ 1 ] display break prompt ! [ 2 ] auto-boot image in disks ! [ 3 ] console baud: 9600 ! boot: ...... auto-boot index 1 image in disks ! !do you wish to change the configuration? y/n [n]: y !disable "password recovery"? y/n [n]: n !disable "display break prompt"? y/n [n]: n !enable "ignore system configuration"? y/n [n]: y !disable "auto-boot image in disks"? y/n [n]: n !change console baud rate? y/n [n]: n !select specific image in disks to boot? y/n [n]: n ! ! Configuration Register: 0x00000041 ! Configuration Summary ! [ 0 ] password recovery ! [ 1 ] display break prompt ! [ 2 ] ignore system configuration ! [ 3 ] auto-boot image in disks ! [ 4 ] console baud: 9600 ! boot: ...... auto-boot index 1 image in disks ! do you wish to change the configuration? y/n [n]: n ! ! You must reset or power cycle for new config to take effect ! rommon 2 - boot ! ! This causes the ASA to reboot ignoring the startup configuration ! Bringing you back to the prompt once ASA has reloaded ! enable ! conf t ! sh run ! Show the running configuration returns a blank configuration ! sh start ! Show Startup reviews the current configuration ! copy start run ! We need to copy the startup config to the running config ! enable password P@55word ! change the enable password ! no config-register ! reset the configuration register, the ASA will boot to the first configuration file it finds ! ! end ! wr mem ! Save the configuration ! reload ! Reloads the ASA ! ! Once reloaded and back to the prompt, enter enable and the password you added earlier ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ That brings this presentation to an End...
