Hyderabadi Haleem is a rich, delicious and traditional dish made with wheat, lentils, meat, ghee and aromatic spices. It is a famous delicacy from the city of Hyderabad and is especially popular during the holy month of Ramadan. In this recipe, wheat and different lentils are soaked and cooked slowly with tender meat, spices, ginger, garlic and ghee until everything becomes soft and creamy. The mixture is then mashed and cooked on low flame, giving haleem its smooth and thick texture. Finally it is garnished with fried onions, fresh coriander, mint, lemon juice and sometimes dry fruits. Hyderabadi Haleem is full of flavor, very nutritious and a perfect dish for special occasions. It is usually served hot with naan or eaten as a hearty meal on its own.
