Music by: Benj Pasek and Justin Paul Orchestration by: Rob Mathes Arranged by: Jennifer Wharton (subscribe: / jenniferwharton ) A few months ago, I was feeling less than awesome about the state of the world and The Greatest Showman was on TV. It was on the part where the Bearded Lady (Keala Settle) realized PT Barnum (Hugh Jackman) was ashamed of her and her coworkers. She sings "This Is Me". It is about standing up for yourself, being proud of who you are, accepting and, ultimately, loving yourself. It spoke to me. I WISH I had had female role models when I was a budding young trombonist. If I could have seen myself in my chosen career, it wouldn't have felt so impossible and lonely. Still, many times I might be the only female in a band....20-30 years later. This is my hug to my fellow brass players that have been told they wouldn't make it. Told they only got hired because someone thinks they are cute. To the ones that quit playing because the pressure got to be too much. To the ones that kept going even though they didn't have support. THIS IS FOR YOU! “This Is Me” was written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Thank you to Benj, Justin, Alex Lacamoire, Rob Mathes and Mike Casteel for hooking me up with the score. And thanks to all the fine people that helped me bring this video to life.
