STORYLINE: The leadership of the internationally unrecognised Donetsk People's Republic provided media access to the Olenivka prison where over 50 Azov militants were reportedly killed earlier this month. DPR leader Denis Pushilin maintained on Wednesday Moscow's line that the attack was carried out by a Ukrainian missile after Azov prisoners began to give away secrets about Kyiv in interrogations. Separatist authorities and Russian officials said the attack killed 53 Ukrainian prisoners and wounded 75. Human-rights ombudsperson Darya Morozova reported 50 dead and 71 wounded. A spokesperson for the prosecutor general of the breakaway republic told the media that the type of weapon used in the attack was still being determined. Russian media and officials have claimed it was a HIMARS missile, supplied by the US, that struck the prison and left scores dead. They said the strike was aimed at discouraging Ukrainian soldiers from surrendering. Pushilin welcomed a UN-led commission to investigate the attack but expressed doubts about whether it will be allowed to happen independently without external influences. The Ukrainian military, in a statement, has denied any rocket or artillery strikes in Olenivka, and said it only aims for Russian military targets. Neither claim could be independently verified.
