Portacool Jetstream 260 Evaporative Cooler Review The thing is heavy duty and basically uses a water supply and large cardboard filters to cool the air as it circulates. You could fill it up with a garden hose or hook it up to a dedicated supply. Plug it in, turn it on, boom, it cools the room. Overall, the fan works well and creates great airflow that is definitely cooler when using the water function (you can also just use it as a fan). Just be ready for the added humidity, as much as 5-10%. This is unavoidable since you're literally using water to cool the air - of course humidity will be produced. In some areas or buildings, that won't be a problem. We're right by a large body of water so it's going to be humid no matter what, we just run the dehumidifiers nonstop. There's minimal cover from the sun and the roof isn't well insulated so it gets HOT in here. This fan gets a lot of mixed discussion, so flat out, know that it will work best for spaces 2,500-5,000 sq ft and in conjunction with other fans. Anyone that's worked in an industrial building during the summer months can tell you, there's no perfect way to manage the climate indoors unless you can / want to spend 5 figures on a large unit. We rent this space and are here on a temporary basis so it doesn't make sense to do a whole a/c project. For our next, longer term space, sure. For the size, the noise is about what you'd expect - it's a huge fan, it can only be so quiet lol. The variable speed control is really convenient, the lockable casters roll smoothly, it's relatively easy to clean, and it'll last a long time with regular maintenance. The portacool site is well designed and replacement parts are easy to find - huge! You'll probably get a good amount of dust on the filters (portacool calls it "media") as you use it. Keep these cleans because they're not cheap. For us to replace what we have here, it would be around $600. But we believe you get what you pay for, these will easily last a few years if you're rotating them, removing dust build up, and most importantly, allowing them to properly dry. We like to turn the water off about an hour before we'll be shutting the fan off. You can also use the brush attachment on your vacuum and keep those clean. ----------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE - the Jetstream model I reviewed here is no longer in production, though parts and accessories are available while supplies last. The upgraded Apex line now exists with more size options, touchscreen and app control, improved propellor tech, reduced volume, water level indicators, and automatic shut-off.
