Hunting down scattered walleye on Lake Winnibigosh in northern Minnesota with Charlie Peterson from Northland Fishing Tackle. This video breaks down how to use FFS to catch a lot more walleye that won’t let you get over the top of them with a boat. Lake Winnie is typical of many northern MN lakes with clear water and spooky fish. We initially use side imaging to break down big sand flats and than use Forward Facing Sonar FFS (Active Target 2) to cast jigs and slip bobbers at walleye. The Northland Stand Up Short Shank Tungsten Jig tipped with either a jumbo leech or half crawler is typically our go to presentation day in and day out. We had a good amount of wind early in the day which definitely seems to help the bite and let us get closer to the fish (30-40 feet). We share some insights on fishing wind blown structure on clear lakes and some of the basic jig and slip bobbers presentations we rely heavily on to catch walleye with FFS in northern Minnesota. Tips for identifying walleye with your electronics, tips for how to find and catch walleye on Lake Winnie along with tips on using jigs and live bait with FFS.
