Just after I exited the gates of Whiterun, as I mounted my horse, a mysterious force blew me upward, horse and all! I could see a vast distance over the plains, high above the walls of the city. I could feel the divine energy carrying me in the air, and I realized that this must be the work of Kynareth! I tried to pray to her, but fear of falling distracted me and my faith wavered. Suddenly I felt the power wane, dropping my horse gently enough to shelter it from harm. The force of the drop sent me faceplanting painfully into into the stony road, winded and bruised from the impact but otherwise uninjured. Have I been chided? What have I done to draw her attention to me? Have I been judged? What does she want me to do and what was she trying to tell me? I should probably help Danica Pure-Spring revive the Gildergreen as soon as possible. Was is bad that I was dropped, or was it good that I wasn't hurt? Gratitude and worry swirled in my gut. Reflecting on this as I dusted myself off and got back on the horse, I decided to hurry with my tasks so I can revive the sacred tree of before Kynareth's patience runs out. Since she is wise and the wise are patient, I'm sure she can understand and respect that I'm honor bound to complete my previous, urgent obligations. As I rode to the Tundra Homestead to inspect my new property, it dawned on me that the Companions contact is to kill a wolf in Aerin's home. Isn't that where Mjoll the Lioness also stays? One swing of her axe should end the beast, so why bother hiring us? We're not cheap, and she has the skills to handle it herself. She did mention before that she opposes the Thieves' Guild and the Blackbriar family that corrupts and controls Riften... The Tundra Homestead is an impressive home, despite being small and a bit more expensive. The quality of the woodwork is beautiful and the interior is space efficient without being too cluttered. Very pleased with the purchase of this new home, I returned to Whiterun to make the final preparations and took a quick nap before hiring a carriage to Riften. It was so embarrassing! I thought there was more than one wolf, so I accidentally hit Barbas with my greatsword as hard as I could! Good thing he's the better half of a powerful immortal, so he just shrugged it off like I bumped into him. I couldn't tell if Aela was trying not to laugh or just disappointed, but she told me to get outside. Harbinger or not, it felt like the right thing to do. As she shut the door behind us, she tried to say, "Good work," without sarcasm, but it leaked through enough anyway. She still paid me my share, even though she killed the wolf herself before I could fully enter the house. I often have moments of glorious victory, but sometimes she looks at me the same way as when I was a welp who didn't know what was going on. I spoke with Mjoll at the market between selling off things at the stalls. Neither of us cared to mention the wolf incident. She mentioned her lost sword again, this time saying it happened in Mzinchaleft. I've been curious about exploring some Dwemer ruins anyway, but this is a good reason to do it sooner than later. But honor bound duties come first! Then I suddenly remembered how the legendary unicorn was rumored to have been seen nearby. I was so tempted to make a quick diversion to at least see it for myself, but decided that it probably would take more time that it seems. I shouldn't keep the mages of Winterhold waiting for these books, which I should probably read before I deliver. As I went back around Riften to look for more places to peddle my wares, I stumbled into Honorhall Orphanage. I was hoping for some kind of shop for raising funds for the care of the children, but instead I found a horrible hag terrorizing a group of helpless little ones. Barbas was as angry as I was, but he waited for my Fury spell to make her fair game. He leaped up and tore out the wretch's throat in one bite, seeming quite pleased with himself. This other woman better be nicer to these kids, after she's done freaking out.
