In the Oderland east of Berlin, the largest battle between the Red Army and the Wehrmacht at the end of the Second World War in Europe raged for ten weeks: the Battle of the Seelow Heights. From today's perspective, it is a challenge to recognize the battlefield in the tranquil landscape of the Oderbruch on which not only the end of the war was decided, but also the face of post-war Europe emerged. It was there in 1945 that what had happened on the continent for centuries happened for the last time: Large armies compete against each other on the open field. The outcome of such battles shaped the history of the continent. Today, fighting and dying in this place are a distant past. The landscape remains. Does it show what is repressed?
