Going Across the River on My Final Day - Asahan River Valley, Sumatra

This was my last day in this part of Sumatra before riding my bicycle back down out of the mountains to the waiting ferry to Malaysia. And I wanted to make the most of it while leaving enough time to rest and pack and get ready for the following day of cycling. And with that in mind, I decided to take the hand trolley again back across the river and go for a hike simply to see what was there. I'd crossed the river using this hand trolley once already, but all I'd done was go across and come back just for the fun of the ride. This time, I had a purpose: to cross the river and then go exploring. AND I broke out my Insta360 X3 to get a different perspective. The thumbnail is taken from that 360 video. From the presence of working motorcycles on one side of the river and the sound of working motorcycles on the other, I suspected there had to be rough trails over there leading to areas where people were working. Perhaps in rubber plantations. Perhaps in oil palm plantations. Perhaps doing other things. Maybe even logging? Beyond that, I had my eye on some cliffs and hills that I wanted to check out. From my side of the river, there looked to be cleared areas, and I wanted to take a closer look and see what was going on there. It was a fantastic last day, and I enjoyed every minute of this experience that included the giddy trolley ride, some adorable puppies, a surprise crop harvest, and some quite steep climbing on a burned out and logged hillside.
