EMPOWERMENT Group Captain Tim Jones talks about Empowerment and the 'Empowerment Challenge'. In my time as Station Commander at Brize Norton, I've been consistently impressed with the quality of the work that goes on around the base, and the quality of the ideas that people have, and so that's why these 'Shadow Boards' are really important because they're about harnessing the best ideas from around the Station. They're about sharing information and decisions in the running of the base, and it's about making people feel more valued in terms of the contribution that they can make to the running of [RAF] Brize Norton. So, the ideas that we've had from the 'Shadow Boards', we've taken up at the 'Management Board' level on the Sation, and we've used those to make real decisions about the future of the Station, and how we run it. So, as I go around the Station, I ask people this question, "What decision do you currently have to refer up to your Boss, that you think you should be able to make yourself?"
