Siberia man starts museum to commemorate WWII victory

(6 May 2020) A resident of the Siberian village of Ivan-Ozero has set up a small museum in his logged house to commemorate his ancestors who fought in WWII and to preserve the memory of the Great Patriotic War for visitors. The exhibition in the settlement 300 kilometers from Lake Baikal includes vintage weapons, military uniform and other memorabilia.   For years Mikhail Sapizhev has collected items that illustrate life during wartimes. Sapizhev amassed his collection from relatives, villagers, or while traveling and each exhibit has a unique history behind it. He sees his dedication to educating the young generation. "People will come here, they will look around, ask questions, get acquainted. I think that one should know its history, be proud, and cherish it," Sapizhev said. The museum founder also serves as a guide, where he tries to tell the stories that will make events of the past more familiar to the young generation. For the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, Sapizhev has put a special banner on the gate of his logged house. The banner has photos of his relatives who fought during the war or who were contributing to the victory from home.
