#neckpain #physio #treatment Cervicogenic headaches usually present like a tension headache, where the pain is emanating from the cervical spine and then radiates through the back of the head, around the side of the head and even into the eye. Most common origin of this is around C2 and C3 and usually on one side more than the other. Most people present with a headache and a really tender spot in the base of the skull, as well as related painful muscular trigger points in the upper trapezius and sometimes the levator scapulae. The occipital muscles are also very tender and there is stiffness and loss of range of movement, usually into rotation of the cervical spine. In the clinic we use a mixture of treatments to help improve the range of movement of the neck, reduce joint stiffness, muscle spasm and tightness - and decrease the pain. In this video I will show you some soft tissue release and mobilisation techniques for use for the upper cervical spine. Don’t forget to check out PART 2 when we work on muscle strengthening and range of movement exercises - as well as some scapular stability work to help people fully recover and prevent the headaches coming back.
