I hope this helps somebody. It's difficult getting beyond just playing the right notes in the right time, but you shouldn't wait until you've mastered that before being musical with it. Try to turn the simplest studies or exercises into a beautiful musical moment. You shouldn't be of the mindset (all too common) of getting technique sorted first, and then putting the musical bit in afterwards. I've found that going for the expression from the outset actually helps my technique sometimes. Think about that.
