Hornitos Black Barrel is an Añejo Tequila that clocks in at 80 proof or 40% ABV and has been aged for a total of 24 months in varying types of charred oak barrels. Hornitos describes their Black Barrel Añejo Tequila as follows: "Hornitos® Black Barrel® starts as a premium, aged Añejo, then spends four months in deep charred oak barrels to give it rich, smoky flavor and a golden amber color. It spends an additional two months in specially toasted barrels for more depth and distinct complexity. Easy to drink and unforgettably smooth, Hornitos® Black Barrel® was the most highly awarded tequila of 2014." This all sounds quite nice Lets see if Hornitos Black Barrel Añejo Tequila lives up to the promise of the prose. My written review follows: Hornitos Black Barrel Añejo Tequilar REVIEW: A = Hornitos Black Barrel Añejo Tequila pours a bight caramel color with a few golden amber glints when held to the light. Tons of alcohol leg tear down the glass when swirled. S = Agave syrup, vanilla, citrus fruit and smokey barrel char dominate the nose. This is followed by some tannic barrel notes, caramel and burnt brown sugar. I’ve never smelled so much char in a glass of Tequila before. I wish I could live in the glass. Goes down easy wth only a moderate warming in the chest. O = Hornitos Black Barrel Añejo Tequila is a great Tequila for bourbon / whisky drinkers. It packs complexity with the addition of the unique barrels, but still retains its strong Tequila flavor. This balance makes it easy to drink and quite enjoyable. If you see it at to your own local bottle shop give it a go. You will be pleasantly surprised.
