Exercise Bersama Lima 2024 has concluded. Five Power Defence Arrangements partners Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom conducted joint training across air, land and sea. Australia deployed RAAF F-35A Lightning II Aircraft and an RAN Clearance Diving Team for the first time to an FPDA exercise. Exercise Bersama Lima 2024 (BL24) is an annual Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) exercise, taking place from 01-18 October 2024 in Singapore, Malaysia, and the FPDA exercise area including the South China Sea. A contingent of around 400 ADF personnel deployed to work alongside FPDA partners – Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom – to train air, land, and maritime forces in support of the coordinated defence of Malaysia and Singapore. The exercise marked the ADF’s first deployment of both Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) F-35A Lightning II aircraft and a Royal Australian Navy clearance diving team as part of an FPDA exercise. The ADF contingent also included RAAF C-27J Spartan light tactical aircraft and crew, KC-30A multi-role tanker transport aircraft and crew, E-7A Wedgetail airborne early warning and control aircraft and crew as well as an Australian Army infantry platoon and support personnel, and a group of command, support, and specialist personnel embedded in the FPDA’s Headquarters Integrated Area Defence System (HQIADS).
