What if the thoughts that shape your day never turn off? In this deeply personal talk, Dallas Woodruff offers an honest look at what it means to live with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)—a condition often misunderstood and oversimplified. Through vivid storytelling, she invites the audience into her inner world, where everyday routines are governed by intrusive thoughts and compulsions driven by anxiety and fear. Woodruff challenges common misconceptions about OCD and shows how logic alone cannot quiet a disorder rooted in obsession and uncertainty. Drawing from her lived experience, Woodruff explains how OCD manifests far beyond stereotypes of neatness or perfectionism. She shares how intrusive fears related to health, safety, and loss have shaped her daily life since early childhood, and how compulsions—while meant to provide relief—often deepen anxiety instead. By illuminating the emotional toll of invisible mental illness, she underscores the importance of empathy, understanding, and support for those who struggle in ways that may not be outwardly visible. Dallas Woodruff is a communication studies major in her junior year at Widener University. She serves as president of the Public Relations Student Society of America and vice president of Widener University’s radio station. She is also a student worker in University Relations and a social media intern with the Communications Department. In addition, she has worked as a research assistant for the textbook Speaking Professionally. Beyond campus, Woodruff holds a marketing-focused internship with Intermetro Industries Corporation and works as a freelance podcast consultant. She is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the official honor society of the National Communication Association, and was named to the President’s List for her academic achievements. She has earned certifications in social media marketing and search engine optimization, and her passions include hiking, wellness, writing, and educating others about obsessive-compulsive disorder.
