Historical Houses of Farmington Village

Sllideshow of 25 historic houses in Farmington, Connecticut, from the current photo exhibit at MIss Porter's School art gallery Dec 2011--photographed with an artistic flair. A brief description including the history and occupant(s) of each house is included. Many photographs were taken right after a snowstorm. Most houses along Main Street were built by members of Farmington's founding families. Their incomes first came from farming, later from trade. In the late 1800's to 3early 1900's many individuals moved to Farmington into the fine old houses, added servants wings, revived and enlarged the gardens and entertained guests during weekends.Miss Porter's School located at the center of the village helped maintain the street's residential characters by preserving old houses and adapting them for educational use.
