30 years of screamo - A compilation from 1992 to 2023

A compilation to celebrate 30+ years of Screamo, a musical genre I discovered twenty years ago, thanks to my local record store and the release of La décadence de la décadence by Amanda Woodward. I’ve been listening to it and loving it ever since. From one to three tracks per year, spanning 1992 to 2023. The choice of bands and songs is, of course, highly subjective — and I’m well aware of some notable absences (Envy, Touché Amore...). I’ve tried to vary the selection in terms of the bands’ origins (since punk and screamo have always been about crossing — and even destroying — borders), the labels (a vital link in the existence and circulation of underground music), and to avoid an overly masculine curation, aiming instead for gender inclusivity. After all, from its very beginnings, the genre has carried a critical stance on gender norms and hegemonic masculinity, and has affirmed feminist and minority-aligned commitments — themes already present in Finger Print’s Unlimited. Each of these tracks carries personal memories for me, moments of discovery, of relistening over the years, and I hope they’ll now carry some of yours too.
