Balasaheb Sarwade, a young office-bearer of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), was brutally stabbed to death following a heated political dispute linked to candidature and nomination withdrawal. The incident occurred in the Joshi Galli area near Old Boramani Naka, where political tensions had been simmering for the past two days. According to reports, a family member of the deceased was an aspirant for the Solapur Municipal Corporation elections, but the ticket was allegedly denied at the last moment, triggering clashes between rival groups. On the final day of nomination withdrawal, the dispute escalated into violent confrontation, resulting in a fatal attack on Balasaheb Sarwade. He was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Following the murder, anger erupted across the area, with an enraged mob vandalising a BJP office, further worsening the law-and-order situation. MNS leaders have termed the killing a “political conspiracy” and have made serious allegations against local BJP leaders, even naming an MLA in connection with the incident. Heavy police deployment has been made across sensitive areas, and senior police officials have visited the spot to assess the situation. The incident has raised serious questions about rising political violence during elections and whether democracy is being overshadowed by bloodshed.
