A video montage of The Trolley Museum of New York's Whitcomb 65 Tonner Diesel Locomotive #9 moving on its own through the museum yard. The diesel locomotive ran on track that was repaired by museum volunteers and members of the Car Preservation and Restoration Group over the last several weekends. The track on which the locomotive sat had several rotted out wooden ties that needed to be replaced. It couldn't be moved, for there was a high risk of derailment if the locomotive moved through this track. Volunteers pulled, carried, hammered, and dug as these wooden ties had to be installed by hand. No. 9 had been undergoing repairs over the last several months to get it back into operation. The purpose of this and of the track tie replacement was to prepare the Trolley Museum of New York with the arrival of its newest acquisition, a historic 1965 PATH PA-1 subway car No. 143, which was one of two cars that survived intact when the World Trade Center collapsed on September 11th, 2001.
