I'd been stacking up lots of training in the weeks leading up to Gravel Locos and Unbound 200 in two weeks, and some stomach sickness seemed to be sticking around for the ~10 days or so leading up to Gravel Locos. I felt that I'd recovered enough, but turns out my body had different ideas on race day. The race split up very quickly, after a few punch hill sections and then a decisive wash out crossing right after passing through the town of Iredell, and the lead group was around ~25 riders. I didn't last long after this, feeling the power drain from my body with every bout of nausea, but I was where I needed to be and raced about as well as I could have with the legs I had. I pulled out at Feedzone 2, in order to not dig my hole any deeper and try to get some semblance of my pre-sick self back before Unbound on June 1st.
