Against our better judgement, we are looking far too early at the weather forecast for the first September weekend in Davos, Switzerland. We're going anyway, because the Mondraker Enduro Team race is on the programme. A bit of dry weather would be nice. Of course, the 14-day forecast is worthless, so let's not worry about that. Still, the first thing I'm packing in advance is a good rain jacket ... Fast forward a few days and the weather forecast is fantastic! Sun, dry and a comfortable 15 degrees in Davos Dorf (located at 1,500 metres above sea level). So in high spirits, we ride into the mountain town. As regulars of the enduro team race (we are participating for the fourth time), we know our way around. Mid-afternoon - the day before the race - we arrive at Parsenn Resort. Fantastic accommodation. A spacious flat, big enough for five mountain bikers to generously sleep, eat and display all their gear. With all the luxuries (fitness, sauna, bikeroom and wash) that are certainly not standard for mountain bike trips. In no time, we are changed in front of the property on the flank of the mountain. Ready to do at least one run before we can pop straight into race-vibe tomorrow. The Parsenn Bahn takes us up to 2,665 metres altitude. We notice this in our lungs as we do a juvenile sprint to the first trail start. We already know a number of trails reasonably well and besides, Trailforks has expanded enormously from Davos-Klosters with over 150 trails. Bram wants to explore the famous Signal trail, because he completely ‘stalled’ there once before in the difficult rock gardens (spoiler...: this will happen again in 2024).
