Below follows the story of how the project "HuMI Smart Glove" came to life, and how Arveng Technologies subsequently came to be. My name is Magnus Arveng, and I am a M.Sc student at NTNU (the Norwegian University of Science and Technology). Last year I came up with an idea for using a sensor based glove for human-machine interaction, and I started bringing that idea to life. Shortly thereafter, Arveng Technologies was established (august 2016). With help from a friend, we made a short video (2 minutes) that gives a quick overview of who I am and what I set out to do. The video focuses on controlling drones, and gives a visualization of what I wanted it to do. This is at a stage where I essentially represented the whole company, and thus the focus in this video is on me as an individual and the project. My goal was (and still is) to be able to use the HuMI Smart Glove in combination with a VR headset, as a tool for creation. I want to be able to do 3D-modelling, drawings, design and other activities where we express ourselves creatively, and use our hands to create. When I told this to one of the designers at Graphiq (https://www.graphiq.design/), he responded: "Oh, can I try one?! I don't want to define this arc mathematically, I want to draw it, and see if it feels right!". After months of working alone, I was nearly exhausted. I was working up to 14 hours a day, trying to combine life as an entrepreneur with school. I realized that in order to make this happen, I needed more manpower, or my flame would soon burn out. With the help of my good friend Moina Tamuly, my 2IC and now COO, we gathered two separate teams: one for business development and the Tech Team to develop the technology, and actually make things work. We recruited a bunch of bright minds and fellow students through classes at NTNU, and have made several iterations of our prototypes during the spring of 2017. On our most recent adventure, Moina and I were lucky enough to get featured in Office X's video recap of Startup Extreme 2017. At this event, promising Norwegian Startups and investors were invited to a 3-day Extreme Startup Conference and Summit in Bergen and Voss, for an unforgettable networking experience. We are now 11 students engaged in making the HuMI Smart Glove (short for Human-Machine Interaction Smart Glove) commercially available. We have decided that our proof of concept will be drone control, to prove that we have created a tool for human-machine interaction that is easy to use, intuitive and more natural than the way we are controlling machines today. We intend to sell a very Limited Edition of 100 Beta gloves during the fall of 2017, for product validation and market validation purposes. (Do you want to be among the first to try? Through HuME Smart Glove, Arveng Technologies aim to deliver the Go To solution for anyone with specific needs for controlling machines and/or any kind of technology that can benefit from natural hand movements as controller input.
