He assumed command on July 1, 2022. Regarding a possible change of command for EUCOM: In May 2025, it was reported that Air Force Lt. Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich was being considered to succeed General Cavoli as EUCOM Commander and Supreme Allied Commander Europe. General Grynkewich is currently the Director of Operations at the U.S. Joint Staff. As of June 27, 2025, Lt. Gen. Grynkewich was still being considered for the role and there was a mention of his potential confirmation in a YouTube video discussing commander nominees.
