Stay tuned for our expert analysis and insights on this breaking news story. EUCOM Change of Command General Christopher G. Cavoli currently serves as the Commander of U.S. European Command (EUCOM). He assumed command on July 1, 2022. Regarding a possible change of command for EUCOM: In May 2025, it was reported that Air Force Lt. Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich was being considered to succeed General Cavoli as EUCOM Commander and Supreme Allied Commander Europe. General Grynkewich is currently the Director of Operations at the U.S. Joint Staff. As of June 27, 2025, Lt. Gen. Grynkewich was still being considered for the role and there was a mention of his potential confirmation in a YouTube video discussing commander nominees. Should Grynkewich be confirmed, he would take command during a time of high tension in Europe due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and a shift in U.S. military strategy in the region. Under Grynkewich, EUCOM might emphasize enabling European nations to handle more conventional security responsibilities, allowing the U.S. to focus on the Pacific. Important Notes: There is no confirmed date for a EUCOM change of command as of June 29, 2025. The information available indicates a potential change, but it is not yet officially announced or completed. General Cavoli is still the current Commander of EUCOM.
