Above all else, I was happy to be back at Nationals in Roanoke. The road and crit courses were both incredible. To be honest, I hadn't been feeling good on the bike for the last month or so. After some sickness and family travel and some terrible races in the run in to Nats, I wasn't exactly thrilled with my form. Still, I had a blast and was thrilled to finish. The real win personally was feeling a bit like myself again. This course is one I'll remember for a while. The punchy hill up Fourth St heading to the fast and flowing downhill into the final corners was a fun feature. And the long false flat into a cross headwind through the start finish made for a lot of attrition. On a day were less than half the field finished, you could say I was happy to get my participation trophy. I started moving up with 4 to go as the gap to the break started shrinking. I was hoping the legs would surprise me, but at 2 to go there was nothing left to try my luck. I fell off the pace in the last lap and crossed the line around 30th. Certainly not thrilled by the "result", but I can't say I was disappointed in the least. On my best legs I would have loved to have spent the day near the front mixing it up in the break, but for better or worse this weekend was about survival. And I survived. On the bright side, the sensations have started trending in the right direction and I'm really looking forward to the second half of the season. Race Stats: 75min 345w NP 2500ft elevation 27.3mph
