Original Soundcloud: / the-federalist-papers-demo-tribute-to-hami... #Hamilfilm. I made this in 2016, but 2020 brought it back! Please enjoy! I'm a huge fan of Hamilton because I love rap, musicals, and history. But Lin-Manuel Miranda, after spending so much time on the life of Alexander Hamilton, glossed over my favorite part of America's crucial period - the Federalist Papers. Given maybe all of 5 lines and a short monologue in Non-Stop. So, instead of wallowing in sadness, I took it upon myself to write and record it. All parts are me, because I'm not friends with Miranda or Onaodowan... yet. Lyrics: Ensemble: 1787 Hamilton: It’s been four years since the treaty of Paris These Articles? They've have left us embarrassed A plan for government that has us nowhere with delegates screaming; pulling out their own hair We are stuck in a league of friendship. We asked for money, and we’ve got shit. We wanted united states, this is not it. We are stuck to complain in silence. These articles give our nation no power Our treasures troves have been devoured. Congress has no money, can’t tax commerce States pay their share? Ha! Be honest. A constitution was already unprecedented for a real future, it's time we reinvented it. It’s time to meet again; rethink the game and throw away the document putting us to shame. We meet, reconvene, the public has no clue The articles are tossed; we start anew. We write for days, in utmost secrecy Out of fear we’ll become a blip in history We the people of the United States Are finally getting up to stand the test of faith That this nation will make it to a new century We are here to become what we're meant to be The constitution is out, how does the public react? What’s this, in the paper, it’s a written attack Cato: We don’t trust this document, it heavily lacks true government, our delegates got sidetracked instead ignored the original contract to amend, not rewrite, just adapt. Hamilton: Signed by “Cato”, who is this? An anti-federalist pissed off misfit? Desperate to poke holes in our constitution; he won’t get to damaging this institution This is why I became a federalist. Time for a decorated, dedicated war vet rational tactical, who knows not to forfeit Cato, I believe you’ll be missed I’m about to bring out Publius To do this well, I’m gonna need some help. John Jay! James! Come in for a spell. I have an idea to defend our work We need to see to it they don’t injure the document of the people we created I can’t stand by as they attempt to desecrate it. Madison: What’s the plan, Hamilton? Hamilton: A series of essays anonymously published defending the document to the public Jay: I’m in Madison: So am I Hamilton: Then its time to rise Write the essays, and I surmise That we’ll end the accusations of treason the American people will listen to reason. Ensemble: Number 1! Hamilton: To the people of the state of New York, It is my objective to gain your support You have your issues with the constitution, of course. I have an answer for your every retort. Ensemble: Number 2! Jay: We saw farmers threaten our country We can’t even defend our nation at sea To do this, we need foreign policy And our new constitution gives us real treaties Ensemble: Number 10! Madison: Factions can threaten our unity Chain reactions that destroy our union to be A united republic gives us some immunity An opportunity To have real debates, placate and create a nation that we can all place our faith in. Hamilton: Madison, its a letter from John Jay: “I’ve fallen ill but I wish you along" Madison: Hamilton, this will ruin our plan. Hamilton: Madison do you not understand? We’ll have to do this all on our own Convince New York and Virginia the constitution is strong We are not wrong in our defense To win this fight, we cannot end - again! Madison: If men were angels, government would be unnecessary Our desperation for power, it scares me Hamilton: So we need a system built to the contrary Checks and balances calm vicious adversaries Madison: Let ambition counter ambition, manage human nature Hamilton: A judiciary, executive, and a legislature! We need to move beyond anarchic appeal Tackle government with a newfound zeal. Give the nation power it needs to succeed So we are able to prepare for future contingencies Madison: Alexander, I’m sorry but I must go back to Virginia, the constitution’s being attacked Hamilton: Good luck James, I’ve got it from here I’ll finish us off, after half a year I need to defend the Senate and Executive Give justice to our work on the justices 21 essays about government branches Define judicial review as they sit on their asses The convention looms, the time is ominous Only one more left, we're still anonymous To finish off, it's a quip from my quill tip if we stick with the articles, we shall fall “A nation without a national government is an awful spectacle."
