National Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning Performance Test Facility

CSIRO’s National Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) Performance Test Facility can evaluate how well air-conditioning systems work and how much energy they use. The facility has two test rooms that simulate indoor and outdoor environments – indoor equipment is placed in one room and outdoor equipment in the other. Conditions are set using a building model, which can represent different climates around the world, as well as building materials such as insulation, and characteristics such as orientation and sun exposure. The facility also has a range of solar thermal collectors to test different heating and cooling systems. This data can help researchers, industry and manufacturers test conventional and novel air-conditioning systems and understand how their performance could be improved.
