From the beaches of Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge and the final push into Germany, the 80th played a vital role in liberating Europe from Nazi control. Join us as we explore the valour, sacrifice, and history of the 80th Infantry Division on the Blue Ridge path to victory. Patch. Training: Conducted maneuvers in Tennessee and Desert Training in Arizona before sailing for Europe in July 1944. Engaged in the bitter winter battles in the Saar region late 1944. Battle of the Bulge: Rushed north in December 1944 to help blunt the German Ardennes Offensive. Fought in Luxembourg and Belgium, repelling German advances. Crossing the Rhine & Final Drive: Crossed the Rhine River (28 March 1945) near Mainz. Advanced through central Germany, capturing Kassel, Eisenach, Erfurt, and Weimar. Liberated the Buchenwald Concentration Camp (April 1945). Met Soviet forces near Chemnitz in May 1945. Reserve Component: Reactivated as a U.S. Army Reserve division, with headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. During the Cold War, it became a training division, preparing soldiers for service rather than frontline combat. --- Modern Era Today, the 80th Training Command (The Army School System) continues the Blue Ridge Division’s lineage. Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, it oversees training across the Army Reserve, ensuring soldiers are prepared for deployment worldwide. --- Legacy The 80th Infantry Division is remembered for: Its relentless drive in WWII from Normandy to Germany.
