At the European Industry & Energy Summit in Antwerp Rob Ingram, CEO INEOS Olefins & Polymers Europe, gave a TED talk on why European chemistry is at a crossroads, struggling to complete globally and what it takes to rebound as an industry. 🎤 "Part of the reason for Europe’s decline is that European petrochemical assets are typically 30-50 years old, whilst other regions of the world have been building new assets to replace the old. It is vital that our industry in Europe is able to invest in renewal and regeneration to avoid remaining “locked-in” to assets and technologies."#projectone 🎤 "Europe has the potential to be at the vanguard of a new net-zero, circular economy, but only if industry has a regulatory framework that supports investment, a framework that remains open to all solutions; and permitting processes that are fit-for-purpose. If the system is too restrictive, too complex, too long and unpredictable, and too costly, then the companies who need to invest may be encouraged to look elsewhere, and Europe will become a laggard rather than trail-blazer." #expandtheoptions The talk fitted seamlessly with the message brought live from Cop28 by Frans Stokman: The chemical industry should be "Leading instead of aging"
