I recently purchased this little 75 ~ 80 watt UHF amplifier to boost the signal from my radio. Unfortunately, it appears I received a dud. Been haggling back & forth with the vendor to no avail so far. They wanted me to email them a video so they could tell me 'what I'm doing wrong'. I have to post a video here as my email has a limit of 25MB, and the video is 466MB. I know my way around communications systems, spent 40+ years as a bench tech and handling all of the radio communications for the large company I worked for, and also hold an Extra Class Amateur license for one of my hobbies. After a couple of back & forth messages, the vendor sent me a short video to view. I watched it and followed the procedures they recommended, but it didn't resolve the issue I was having. In any event, this was the the reply I sent the vendor: "Yes, I watched the video you provided. I tried operating the amplifier as you suggested (by depressing the preamp and SSB buttons), but it still isn't functioning properly. The input to the amplifier is around 3 ~ 4 watts as seen on my Bird watt meter (with a 100 watt BIRD slug). At the amplifier's low power setting (20 watts), the amplifier's output is 30 watts. When increasing the amplifier's power settings above the low (20 watt) setting, the amplifier shuts down. Depressing the PREAMP/LNA and/or the SSB buttons does not change anything in the transmit mode. I shot a video, but apparently it's too large of a file and would not attach here (it's a 466MB file). What do you suggest?" I really don't have time for all this tom foolery, so if they don't want to replace the amplifier with a good working unit, I'll just toss it in the trash and write-off the $140. I spent for it.
