Hello, I’m Utku and I’m documenting my journey of building a portfolio of software companies that are intentionally non-AI. In this video, I talk about something most SaaS founders ignore: your avatar isn’t just a marketing decision. It directly affects your support load, stress levels, and how you spend your time. Choose the wrong customer, and you won’t just feel it in churn. You’ll feel it in your inbox. Overall, my goal with this channel is to document the real thinking behind building software. The trade-offs, positioning decisions, mistakes, and second-order effects that don’t get talked about enough. Especially the parts that impact your lifestyle as a founder. Back at university, I built an event ticket marketplace that completely flopped. I learned a lot from that experience but didn’t document the lessons. More recently, I built a web app that lets you make cheap international calls directly from your browser. Unlike the marketplace, this “Skype alternative” gained traction and has grown to 1000+ users. It’s called dialvia.com if you’re curious. Now I’m working on my third app, something I’ve wanted to build for a long time. This time, I’m properly recording the process. The thinking. The strategy. The mistakes. The uncomfortable realizations. The goal of this channel isn’t to promote Dialvia or push the new app. It’s to share honest experiences from building software in the hope that it helps other engineers and founders make better decisions. If you’re building, or thinking about building, you’ll probably relate.
