Nurnberger Symphoniker - Conductor Kachun Wong Sergei Nakariakov - Flugelhorn/trumpet 1st piece : Rococo variations by Tchaikovsky 2nd piece (@ 19:46) Carnaval de Venice by Arban I remember when I was a conservatory student (classical saxophone) and hearing him play; I was blown away by his incredible virtuosity and the beautiful sound he gets out of his instruments. Inspired me a lot and especially his reworkings of cello repertoire (like Rococo variations) played on the beautiful sounding Flugelhorn (comes closer to the sound of saxophone than trumpet;-). There are great trumpet/cornet players (Hardenberger, Marsalis, Roger Webster, Friedrich etc..) but what Nakariakov did/does is waaay beyond what was done before he arrived; he's a leader in a field of one. His performances in this clip were taken from a concert given by the Nürnberger Symphoniker in 2019 with him making a special appearance. The motto of this concert was "Europe across all borders", music from different parts of the world with the main piece being Mussorgsky's "Pictures from an exhibition"; the orchestra is in great form (!) but the main pieces I was interest in sharing here at youtube were the 2 pieces with the trumpet master virtuoso Nakariakov. If you want to see the whole concert; https://www.br-klassik.de/video/20190... There are uploads of concerts in which he plays the very pieces he plays here but this concert captured a very good sound (thanks people at Bayerischer Rundfunk/sat3!) and subjective as it is, I dare say that this is one of his better performances. I found his intonation and articulation incredibly striking and his overall musicality satisfying. Disclaimer: I don't own the rights of these recordings and I hope that Bayerischer Rundfunk will allow this clip to exist here on youtube so we can enjoy this great performance.
