80. Exploring sunken ships and an abandoned hotel in the Bahamas. Filmed Feb 03 to 10, 2024. We took a mid winter break and headed to Freeport Bahamas. At the time, there was a travel advisory because of 18 murders in one month, but it turns out to be gang vs gang violence and not a concern for us. The bus ride to the resort was a windy one. The first thing we did was go for a walk. We had over 4km of beach to explore. In 20 minutes by bike, we could get to the Grand Lucayan Waterway. This waterway cuts through the island of Grand Bahama, but is only 4 feet deep at the north end limiting the use to shoal draft boats. However in the south end it is 8 to 10 feet deep and this is where we found these shipwrecks. Further north is the abandoned Arawak Hotel. It opened in the 1970's and actually operated for 10 years. There is not much information about why it closed. On the ride home we went back to see some other shipwrecks.
