My front diff would engage while the selector switch was in 2wd on my rzr. I decided to replace all the worn out front suspension/wear components as maintenance and then remove my differential to see if I could find the issue. It looks like the Sprag is metal from the factory and the bearings look perfect. The H-Clips look fine. Fluid is clean, armature is not magnetized. Maybe just running too much fluid? As you can see the driver side hub fitment into the spacer to the passenger side hub is tight. After I re-assembled everything the hubs would no longer engage by themselves. Not really sure what's happening. Only thing that I can think of is it's cold out, fluid may be overfilled too much and or too thick, thus causing the bearings to prematurely lock up and engage the hubs.
