Calahonda is a town located in the municipality of Mijas (Málaga) in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain; it owes its name to the Calahonda beach, whose name was used by the developer, D. Juan de Orbaneja y Desvalls, to call Sitio de Calahonda that area and the part of the urbanization in Marbella, Puerto Cabopino, later known as Calahonda. The urbanization began in 1963, being the largest and most populated in the municipality of Mijas.
