Climate Vulnerability Index (CVI) and Other Tools in Support of Community-Based Participatory Mapping Tuesday, February 10, 2026 Geographic information systems (GIS) and related technologies are playing significant roles in supporting community-based research and advocacy. Several state governments, and non-government organizations (NGOs) have developed user-friendly open source GIS tools. This presentation will update attendees on where and how to access the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Climate Vulnerability Index (CVI) tool, ArcGIS Online, and other mapping platforms. Specific examples of how GIS is being used by community-based organizations (CBOs) in the southeast US region will be shared. Opportunities for training and best practices for managing community-based geospatial data will also be discussed. Speaker: Dr. David A. Padgett, Director, GISc Laboratory and Associate Professor of Geography, TSU, Nashville, Tennessee Moderator: Jami Dennis, GISP, GPN Board Member, Geospatial and Visualization Consultant, Geodetic Analysis LLC, Silver City, New Mexico
