In this video tutorial, I show you how to easily make a DIY wick system to keep your houseplants watered whilst you are away. We go through to different pot styles as well. One standard planter with a nursery pot and one pot made for the String Method. This method is perfect for plants that prefer consistently moist soil like the Calathea, Maranta, and other prayer plants. It can also be used on most houseplants if you are travelling for over a week! If you don't have a planter with a dedicated section at the bottom you can always use a plant saucer or a bowl a tray or a jar nearby works fine too. Make sure you use a natural fibre twine or other absorbent material, nothing coated in nylon or plastics! String method vs bottom watering🌿💧 🛁Bottom watering is submerging the plant into a vessel of water! This encourages the roots to grow deeper as they seek out the water source, promoting stronger, healthier plants. Bottom watering is particularly useful for plants that are prone to root rot if their leaves come into contact with water. It is also a great method to keep gnats at bay!
