An analysis of a changing Linux ecosystem | Aleix Pol Gonzalez @ LAS 2025

"We" have been doing "this" for about 3 decades and yet things keep changing: Stakeholders change, projects die and projects get born. How is the wider Linux community adapting to fulfill the needs of the present and future? What's the role of apps in all this? Hint: apps are (almost) everything. I'll try to discuss these topics from my perspective, clearly subjective to KDE, but aiming to cover as much as possible of what's in front of us, including the aspects we ought to improve on. Aleix is the KDE e.V. President, a long-time KDE contributor, and the Linux App Summit founder and organiser. He works for MBition GmbH, a Mercedes Benz subsidiary. The Linux App Summit (LAS) brings the global Linux community together to learn, collaborate, and help grow the Linux application ecosystem. Through talks, panels, and Q&A sessions, we encourage attendees to share ideas, make connections, and join our goal of building a common app ecosystem.
