In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 6.5 mile circular walk from the village of Powerstock which is located 5 miles North East of Bridport & 12 miles West of Dorchester. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan. I parked my car by the church in the centre of Powerstock and started off with a quick wander through the village. After visiting the Church of St Mary, I headed East past The Three Horseshoes pub and along a road that took me over Whetley Bridge (which carries the road over the disused Bridport to Maiden Newton Railway line. I continued Eastwards through the Powerstock Nature Reserve and up over a ridge to Barrowland Park. At Barrowland Farm, I headed South to Eggardon Hill. The hill has an Iron Age Hillfort on top and there are some stunning views to enjoy. I came down off the hill, past North Eggardon Farm and then East back to Powerstock on a route that took me by the old Powerstock Railway Station (the platform is still there). My original plan was to return to Powerstock on a path that took me close to the Castle Hill but I decided on a minor detour to the pretty hamlet of Nettlecombe where I visited The Marquis of Lorne pub. It was then a fairly short journey back to Powerstock and my final destination – The Three Horseshoes pub. Map courtesy of Google Maps. Aerial pictures courtesy of Google Maps.
