Major winter storm to hit Deep South, East Coast; Crippling snow, ice, bitter temperatures expected

Heavy snow, dangerous ice, freezing rain and frigid temperatures are set to cripple the Deep South and East Coast as a massive winter storm arrives. The storm's path is wide-reaching, stretching all the way from New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma to the Deep South, New England and the Carolinas. One of the major concerns is that the storm is hitting parts of the United States that aren't used to this kind of severe weather, with the threat of ice and snow completely coating roads, making for hazardous travel conditions; weighing down trees and power lines, triggering widespread power outages; and impacting air travel in numerous major hubs. This same storm system is what's causing such intensely cold temperatures in Northeast Wisconsin. Jan. 23 marked the most frigid air we've seen in seven years, dating back to January 2019. Our high temperatures never made it above zero. Making matters worse was strong wind gusts that led to dangerous subzero wind chills ranging from the -30s to -54.
