Here's an excerpt of an edition of Eyewitness News on WLS Channel 7, anchored by Joel Daly and Terry Murphy. This is the final installment of a multi-part series on Chicago morning radio personalities reported by Diane Allen. Here, Steve Dahl of WLUP Radio ("The Loop") is profiled. Includes: Joel's preview of coming look before commercial break Brief shot of commercial (for ?) before Joel introduces this report Diane starts off by mentioning the divided viewpoints on him and his legacy and influence, followed by a section of the iconic commercial with "Lorelei the Loop Girl," a clip of the July 14th "Disco Demolition Night" at Comiskey Park, him and partner Garry Meier at an event, as she mentions how Dahl transformed WLUP from near worst to near first, then Dahl at another event at the Carnegie Theater at 1026 North Rush Street, and in the studio recording "Do You Think I'm Disco?"; it is noted that his appeal ranges from young children to 35-year-old bankers, and a look at the aftermath of his anti-disco campaign that culminated in the July event (switching to destroying one record at a time) Besides the man himself, his wife Janet "Planet" and his father are also interviewed Diane ends the report by predicting Dahl will become "a major national star," but Joel predicts he'll become washed up before age 30, as he and Terry close the newscast and preview Jack Jones' weekend edition "A Look...at a Living Dahl" This aired on local Chicago TV on Friday, November 23rd 1979 at the tail-end of the 10:00pm to 10:30pm timeframe. About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television: The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: [email protected] Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to digital, please e-mail [email protected] Thank you for your help!
