This is Mvskoke traditional cooking workshop that guided people through the steps of crafting an authentic, cherished recipes passed down through generations from family and friends. The topic for this workshop was Tafvmpuce (Wild Onions). Wild Onions are often found in shaded wooded areas and creek banks. They have slender leaves and an onion bulb at the end. Tafvmpuce must be dug up in sufficient quatities and cleaned efficiently, before cutting. This meal is a good spring meal and can be stored in a freezer to use within the year. Many people eat it as a delicacy and today, many churches have wild onion dinners that serve as fundraisers. Carol Tiger is from the Mvskoke (Muscogee/Creek) tribe and is an elder known for cooking, sewing and community work. She recieved a mini-grant in 2025 from Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance’s Healing Meals Grant Opportunity that seeks to support Indigenous community organizers in realizing their vision for a healing meal, tailored to their community’s needs, ingredients, and traditions. With this grant she chose to share her knowledge of cooking meals with workshops and creating a digital documentation of it, in hopes that it will help others carry on and share these recipes and traditions with their families and communities.
