A massive thank you to old Nooky, Sharon Webster, Pauly Dean, Hayley Dunning, Aunty Linda and all the mob who showed out to make this project possible. Historical background of the homes: The history of the Bomaderry Aboriginal Children's Home and its surrounding area has many layers, one being the Stolen Generations, which still impacts our country today. Known as the "Birthplace of the Stolen Generation" in NSW, the Home predates other institutions established under the NSW Aborigines Protection Act of 1909. In 1908, the United Aborigines Mission (UAM) founded the Bomaderry Children's Home, where many Aboriginal children were forcibly removed from their families by the Aborigines Welfare Board. These children were stripped of their identity, disconnected from their culture, and subjected to lasting trauma. Thousands from across NSW were placed in institutions like Bomaderry based on lies, leading them to believe they were unwanted by their families. Recognizing this history is crucial for understanding the enduring traumas affecting our people. The Bomaderry Aboriginal Children's Home operated for 80 years, closing in 1988.
