A spaghetti-like, hard structure on top of your penis may be a superficial thrombosis of a vein. The name of the condition: Mondor’s disease. In this video on UroChannel, Dr. med. Dr. phil. Stefan Buntrock, urologist and sexologist from Göttingen, introduces you to this uncommon condition Unlike the looming threat of deep vein thrombosis, this condition won't have you fearing for your life, because it is a superficial thrombosis. But it does have a peculiarity that's quite eye-catching - it can affect the penis. Mondor's disease, technically known as thrombophlebitis of the dorsal superficial vein of the penis, manifests as discomfort along the upper side of the penis. Sometimes, the skin around the dorsal vein turns a shade of red, and the vein itself becomes more prominent, almost like a hard, uncooked bucatini pasta. Pain can intensify during erections, but in some cases, there may be no symptoms at all. However, Dr. Buntrock advises against hasty self-diagnosis, as this condition is scarcely reported in medical literature. This enigmatic condition can be triggered by a range of factors, from vigorous sexual activities and penile trauma to infections and even drug use. The good news is that, in most instances, Mondor's disease resolves naturally within two months, although abstinence from sexual activities may be required during this period. Dr. Buntrock also touches on potential treatments, including heparin cream and anti-inflammatory drugs. In rare cases, surgical clot removal may be considered.
