Soon, a vote will be held on the no-confidence motion placed against the Deputy Mayor. The alliance has long strategized to hoist their flag over the GVMC, the largest municipal corporation in Andhra Pradesh. The no-confidence motion against the Mayor was meticulously planned and successfully executed by the alliance parties — TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP. The special council meeting arranged for the confidence vote was boycotted by the YSR Congress Party. Meanwhile, the YSRCP’s strategy to issue a whip in an effort to contain corporators who had switched parties failed. As the alliance achieved the required two-thirds majority for the no-confidence motion, the GVMC Mayor seat has now come under their control. Former Minister Gudivada Amarnath, however, accused the alliance of conspiring. He stated that the 27 corporators who defied the party whip would certainly lose their membership, and legal action would be pursued against them. At the special meeting held to address the Mayor's no-confidence motion, 74 corporators were present. Since quorum was met, the meeting proceeded and voting was conducted. Despite efforts by Uttarandhra YSRCP’s new in-charge Kannababu and former minister Gudivada Amarnath to retain the Mayor’s seat — including meeting and trying to persuade their party corporators — they were unsuccessful. As per municipal law, a no-confidence motion cannot be brought within the first four years after the initial election. The motion was brought immediately after the Mayor completed four years in office, and the alliance's victory has demonstrated their political strength. Discussions are currently underway within the alliance on finalizing their candidate for the new Mayor.
