Carol Leeming is a poet, playwright, performer and theatre director who has significantly shaped the literature scene in the Midlands. Born and raised in Leicester, her work delves deeply into themes of identity, race and social justice, informed by her cultural background. Leeming’s poetry is acclaimed for its lyrical intensity and thematic richness, addressing complex socio-cultural issues with a blend of personal insight and broad social commentary. As a playwright and director, Leeming has contributed to British theatre with work such as The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Diva, praised for its complex narrative and social relevance, for Britain’s 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Following the success of 100 Black Women Who Have Made A Mark, Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage is delighted to launch a new project for 2026; Making the Invisible Visible: Black Women 365 Days of the Year. Each day will showcase a different woman, whose story has shaped Black British or global Diasporic history; many of whom remain overlooked or under-celebrated in mainstream narratives. This will take the form of a rolling programme of short films, released throughout the year to keep these stories in daily circulation and to create an evolving constellation of leadership, resistance, artistry and enduring impact.
